Australian points based skilled visas are designed in a way to fill the skill shortages of the labour market. It is of a competitive nature and designed to attract the most skilled and in demand occupations so to contribute to the Australian economy.
The Online Points Test for Skilled Migration are mainly for the Skilled-Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489), Skilled-Independent visa (subclass 189) and the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190).
The eligibility criteria for skilled immigrants is determined by the SkillSelect system (to get a better idea of how many points you need to be selected head to our skilled migration news page.
SkillSelect system is point based under which applicants are awarded points for:
- English language ability, Skilled employment, Qualifications, Australian study requirement, Specialist education requirement, NAATI Points for Skilled migration, Professional Year Points
You are required to score a minimum of 65 points (as of 1 July 2018) to qualify but this does not mean you will be selected and invited to apply.
If you over-claim points in your EOI (expression of Interest) your application can be refused.
